Let's Start At The Beginning
So, here we are, my first blog post on a somewhat sensitive subject - I finally have to admit that I am a normal, average human being, and I have failed. Not at everything, mind you, but at something I've considered rather essential for quite some time: maintaining a healthy lifestyle. There are a variety of reasons for this (there always are), along with a sackload of excuses (there always are), so I've decided to use this blog to try to get to the bottom of it. And to let you know that while I am knowledgeable on the subjects of health, wellness, and nutrition - quite educated, even - knowing and DOING are often very different things. I counsel my clients about these subjects and work hard to break things down into small, simple steps to help them more easily experience success. But as it turns out, I am my own worst client. Even the mantra I give my clients - DO ONE THING - isn't as easy in practice as it sounds like it should be.
A few things I know:
- Simple does not equal easy. If that were the case, we all would be smashing successes at most things.
- Knowledge may equal power, but only action equals results.
- Beating yourself up does not motivate or encourage you to be more successful next time (sometimes I think I'm a world champion at this!).
- You're a lot more like everyone else than you want to admit, and that's not a bad thing.
So, here we are. I've committed myself to a coaching program for a full year, and am ready to make some profound and lasting changes - physically, nutritionally, mentally, and emotionally. As I go through the program (which is just beginning, by the way), I've decided to share the journey in the hope that it may help others. By showing people that regardless of knowledge and education, we all have parts of our lives that aren't perfect, we all have vulnerabilities, emotions, failures, successes, good times, and very human lives to be lived. By sharing with and supporting others, we learn and grow. No one lives in a vacuum, no one is as perfect or as put-together as they may seem on the surface , and we all have value to share with each other.
My style is pretty down-to-earth, so I may use some words that are a bit "off color" from time to time. This is meant to be real and I will not make it into something fluffy for my readers - I'm not using this blog as a money-making venture - I am just me, and that's exactly what you'll get. Rough, raw, vulnerable, happy, angry, sad, or whatever - it is what it is on any particular day. I guess that will be my disclaimer, so if I offend anyone it is not done intentionally or with malice.
Thanks for joining me, and thanks for your support. Feel free to leave comments or ask questions below!
Have a health of a day.
